We left during the dark morning hours of Sunday October 6th. Loaded the Jeep up on the trailer, all the gear piled into the back of the truck, Hawk in the backseat with every screen charged up and ready for the long drive ahead. Seattle to Mammoth Lakes California is just about 15 hours on a good day. Pulling a heavy trailer with a diesel truck (thanwould take a bit longer but be way better on the Jeep long term.
Ronda, our third team mate was traveling in style, elevated as a central component to our success. The past year, specifically 4 months, we spent outfitting and deeply considering every part of the Jeep’s build for the 7 day off-road endurance competition that is the Rebelle Rally. The longest and most difficult off-road rally raid in the United States. It is a true test to any vehicle.
Typically covering 1500 miles of terrain with minimal mechanical assistance, the women are completely self sufficient when out on the trail. There are always eyes on the 65 teams, whether that be through the satellite trackers, hidden camera/drone operators, or the secretly placed staff members stalking the route. The competitors are equipped with satellite phones for emergency purposes but other than that…. just their smarts, grit, and confidence get them through the daily grind of 10-12 hours driving off-road navigating with only a map and compass.
After two day driving, we made it to Mammoth Lakes nervous and excited for what was to come.
